TikTok: How to protect your account
| Protect your TikTok account Making your TikTok account a secure and non-anxiety-provoking space should be a priority. Thus, it is possible to manage many parameters and decide who can see your account, interact with your content or write to you. Here are 5 tips to help you effectively secure your TikTok account. |
1. Switch to a private account on TikTok
One of the ways to protect your account on TikTok is to manage its visibility. The first step in this process is to switch from a public account to a private account. To do this :
- On your profile, click on the three lines at the top right of the screen,
- Click on Confidentiality,
- Activate Private account.
A private account thus asks for your approval when a user wishes to subscribe to your account. Accounts that subscribed to yours before you switched to private mode are not affected by this change.
2. Limit the suggestion of your TikTok account
You also have the option to control the suggestion that is made from your account on TikTok. For it :
- On your profile, click on the three lines at the top right of the screen,
- Select Privacy, then Suggest your account to others,
- Disable the options you want from those offered (Contacts, Facebook friends, People with common connections, People who open or send you links).
3. Manage the comment settings on your TikTok videos
It is thus possible to manage the parameters relating to comments from a dedicated section. For it :
- From your profile, access Settings and privacy using the three lines at the top right of the screen,
- Click on Confidentiality,
- In the Security section, select Comments,
- Choose who can comment on your videos (Subscribers, Friends, Person),
- Activate the filters you want: ask to approve all comments before publication, filter spam and offensive comments or add keywords that will be automatically filtered.
Just as you can control who can see your account or your content, you have the ability to define who can interact with your videos on TikTok.
- Click on the three lines at the top right of the screen, on your profile,
- Select Privacy,
- In the Security section, you can manage the different options that allow other users to interact with your content,
- Click on Duo, Collage or even Publish to define who has the right to access these options,
- Click Liked Videos to decide who is allowed to see your liked videos.
5. Define who can send you messages or mention you on TikTok
Users can also decide who can contact them on TikTok, whether through direct messages or mentions. For it :
- On your profile, click on the three lines at the top right of the screen,
- Click on Confidentiality,
- In the Security section, select Mentions and labels to manage the settings for tags and mentions,
- Click Direct Messages to choose who can write to you on TikTok.
